Fuel and power come before parts. On an oil-fired system a tank that ran dry pulls air and sediment into the fuel line, so the burner locks out on its own safety and stays locked out even after a delivery truck fills the tank back up, which is why a tech asks about the last delivery before opening a single panel. Gas equipment gets the same treatment from the other direction, and it's the supply valve, the switch on the joist, then the control board. Old cellar wiring hides plenty of dead switches. Once fuel and power are confirmed, the ignition sequence gets walked one stage at a time so the actual failing link shows itself instead of being guessed at from the symptom.
